OUR COMMUNITY Bedourie Our small town offers plenty of other facilities and events for visitors, including fuel, limited mechanical repairs, groceries and drinks to replenish your eskies before heading off on your adventure through this great outback land. Gymkhana 1st weekend of July Perched on a sand dune and surrounded by Eyre Creek, soak up all the action and speed of the country’s best horse, bike and bull riders in Bedourie. A township home to 120 locals and is appropriately named to reference a ‘dust storm’, stand ringside with hundreds, who flock to appreciate precision, agility and tight teamwork at it’s very best. Camel Races 2nd weekend of July Forget horses, it’s the camels that reign supreme in Bedourie. Be amongst the hundreds of race goers who converge on the town to watch dozens of camels race in six events, worth a total of more than AUD11,000. Also amongst the action is pig racing, wood chopping and novelty events like the ‘old farts’ and ‘old boilers’ foot race. Bedourie Cup Race Meeting September - the weekend after the Birdsville Cup Internationally renowned, there is no event like the famous and historic Birdsville Races. An iconic event since 1882, the Birdsville Races brings local residents of the outback together with visitors from across Australia and around the world. The Birdsville Races are also part of the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival that incorporates events in Birdsville, Bedourie, and Betoota.
